Applying eye shadow

Eye Shadow - How to Apply eye shadow ?

Eye Shadow Rules

  • Almond Shaped eyes with a distinct crease, place the deepest tone on the outer edge of the lid and half way up into the crease, keep the inner half of the lid lighter.
  • Narrow Shaped eyes with a small crease and want to use dark tones, keep them very close to the lash line, and consider highlighting under the brow bone.
  • Round Shaped eyes, keep the deepest tone toward the center of the eye blending upward from lid to crease.
  • large lids, graduate tones, star tine with a liner, then filling in with color to create depth.
  • small lids, keep tones light, or you'll tend to close up the area and make eyes look smaller.
  • eyes with no visible crease, try a deep shadow across the entire lid, then play with a fabulous midnight-blue or shiny black mascara.

How to Apply Eye Shadow

  • Powder eye shadows can be used wet for heavier application by dampening your applicator a little.
  • Select a light base shadow. Using a shadow brush, sweep it across your entire lid, from brow to lash line.
  • Put the very light medium toned shade on the space beneath the brows up to the crease of the eye lid.
  • Contour the crease of your eyelid with a dark shade, using a smaller eye shadow brush. This color can also work as an eyeliner.
  • Only use cream eye shadows that do not cause creasing upon application and should be coordinated with powder shadows that are to be used on top of them. They should be applied using fingertips.
  • Blend shadow by stroking the lid gently with an eye shadow brush. Don't use your finger 'you could wipe off the shadow entirely.
  • Apply a little shadow beneath the eyes, along the lower lash line. Smudge it lightly to give your eyes a subtle, glamorous look.
  • Don't match your shadow with your eyes or your clothes so that attention remains with your eyes and not your makeup!

How to Choose Eye Shadow Color

  • Look for colors that softly contrast with the shade of your eyes - not colors that match them exactly.
  • Choose simple, natural shades. If you opt for bright or trendy colors, be careful, they can look unnatural unless balanced with other suitable tones, and may go out of style as fast as they came in.
  • Keep in mind that dark colors will minimize your eyes, while light shades will make them stand out.
  • Dark brown and black eyes with brown and charcoal shadows.
