Eye stye

Eye Stye Picture, Causes and Treatment of eye in syt by Home remedies

Stye or sty is an infection of eyes where gland at eyelid becomes infected. A pimple/limp like thing appears at the eyelid, which can be visible at outside as well as inside of eyelid. This is not harmful to the vision. This problem could occur in any age.

Causes of Eye Stye

A stye is caused by an infection in the sebaceous (oil producing) or sweat glands in the eyelid. The infection is usually caused by bacteria called Staphylococcus aureus. Although styes are typically painful, tender, red and swollen, they are not harmful to vision. Styes usually burst on their own and then heal within a few days. In order to prevent spreading or further infection, it is crucial that a stye be left to rupture on its own.

Symptoms of Eye Stye

common symptoms of eye stye:

  • Redness at the edge of the eyelid.
  • Frequent watering from the affected eye.
  • Sensation like some thing is there in the eye.
  • Pain over the affected area (localized pain).
  • Tenderness.
  • Discomfort when blinking.
  • Uneasiness in the eye.
  • Drainage of yellow fluid.
  • Tearing of the eye.
  • A pimple or red lump like development at the eyelid.

Diagnosis of Eye Stye

Eye stye can be diagnosed by visual inspection. Sometimes a sample of pus can be taken to detect the infection.

Home Remedies for the Treatment of Eye Stye

  • Take some guava leaves , and placed it on the warm cloth. Use it as compress for few minutes. This is very helpful to reduce the pain, swelling and redness.
  • Gently scrub the eyelid with tap water or with a mild, nonirritating soap or shampoo (such as baby shampoo). This may help with drainage. Close your eyes as you scrub so you do not injure your eyes.
  • Take a cup of water. Dissolve 2-3 granules of alum in it. Use as an eyewash.
  • Use a grated potato as a poultice to reduce swelling in inflamed eyes.
  • Boil 1 teaspoon of coriander seeds with a cupful of water like an herbal tea preparation to wash the eyes 3-4 times a day.
  • Keep the eyelids clean and oil free.
  • Use alum water to wash your eyes. This gives relief in stye. To prepare the solution, mix 2-3 granules of alum in a cup of water.
  • 1 tsp of coriander seeds should be boiled in a cup of water. Use this preparation to wash the eyes 3-4 times a day.

How to get rid of Eye Stye? - Stye treatment

  • Surgical drainage of the stye may also be necessary if the stye is not responding to treatment.
  • Apply warm compresses for several minutes 3 to 4 times daily.
  • Application of prescribed antibiotic drops may also be used to help fight the infection.
